President Barack Obama has given Tony Reardon a couple of new jobs to work on, officiall appointing the National Treasury Employees Union president to spots on the Federal Salary Council and the National Council on Federal Labor-Management Relations on Jan. 7.

Reardon, who was elected in August to succeed past NTEU president Colleen Kelley, said in a statement that the appointments were a great honor.

"I am pleased to be appointed by the president to these two important groups," he said. "The issues of federal pay and having a chance to share thoughts and ideas for improvements in the workplace are important issues for federal workers."

Reardon's spot on the Federal Salary Council—which studies federal pay levels and tracks their growth alongside the private sector—follows in the footsteps of Kelley, who was previously appointed by Obama.

The National Council on Federal Labor-Management Relations was created by a 2009 executive order to advise the president on labor-management relations within executive branch agencies.

Reardon added that the appointments mean that the union, which represents 150,000 federal employees, would continue to play a strong role in advocating for government workers.

"NTEU members have a seat at the table on these two critical issues. I am proud to represent them in these forums," he said.
